Adjunct Professor, Graduate Programs

INSTITUTION OVERVIEW: Founded in 1927 by a Navy veteran, Capitol Technology University is a regionally accredited nonprofit institution that blends academic excellence with career focused practical learning experience. Capitol Tech is the only independent university in Maryland dedicated to STEM and offering evening and online classes at all levels. The University offers flexible pathways to completing their doctorate with a combination of live online instruction, mentored support, and campus residencies to support working professionals.

POSITION SUMMARY: The successful candidate(s) will be enthusiastic about providing instruction to students on the foundations of doctoral studies which will be applied to the fields of Cybersecurity, Business Analytics and Data Science in support of a Doctor of Science in Cybersecurity and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Analytics and Data Science. The individual will be a dynamic educator with experience teaching in a remote synchronous environment and using an LMS to support learning. The individual will demonstrate the ability to motivate and support scholarly excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct students in the foundations of doctoral learning. Including: designing and executing learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourage scholarship, performing accurate assessment of student performance, providing timely constructive feedback to students to support the advancement of their knowledge.
  • Manage classrooms in person, via Zoom, and within the LMS (Canvas) including preparing syllabi, assignments, activities, grading, preparing assessment activities, etc.
  • Maintain office hours to assist students with coursework and academic inquiries.
  • Participate in course modifications including learning outcomes, assessments and textbooks recommendations as requested by the Associate Dean and Dean of the Graduate School.
  • Support student success initiatives by making timely referrals to the doctoral team
  • Effectively use Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.

Position Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited university in: Computer Science, Business Analytics/Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Engineering Technology, Uncrewed Autonomous Systems or other closely related STEM fields.
  • Online synchronous instructional experience working in a virtual team environment at the doctoral level.
  • A minimum of three years of post-doctorate mentoring/teaching experience in graduate education.
  • Experience teaching research methodology courses (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods) and literature review courses.
  • Demonstrated leadership in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to develop and deliver course materials aligned with the university’s curriculum standards.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of course delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Commitment to diversity across students, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment to collegiality with faculty and staff in support of the university’s mission and goals.
  • Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Technical proficiency and experience/ability to use Canvas as the online learning platform.
  • Exceptional verbal communication, written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills with the ability to commit time on a weekly basis, flexibility to meet student needs, and to fully support student progress.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Most possess and employ a coaching/mentoring mindset and supportive demeanor while maintaining academic standards appropriate for high quality Doctoral and Master’s student work.
  • Ability to master the use of the technology platforms used to support learning and administration of the University including: Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for operating computer mouse and keyboard. Hearing and effectively communicating on the telephone, the online learning environment, and in person. Visual demands: Computer monitor and reading.
