About the role
Join CMHC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team in the Specialist, Diversity and Inclusion position. In this role, you will provide expertise in employment equity and accessibility. You will lead the design and implementation of strategies to sustain a diverse workforce and foster an inclusive workplace culture, where everyone has a strong sense of belonging. You will enable our workforce to adopt principles that advance employment equity and accessibility strategies that contribute to driving shared accountability towards our goals.


This is a temporary position with a duration of 14 months.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, including survey and engagement activity results, report on findings, and put forward recommendations on strategies to remove and prevent identified barriers to workplace diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and reconciliation. Perform diversity, inclusion and accessibility maturity assessments and employment systems reviews.
  • Conduct internal consultations using best practices for leading inclusive, meaningful, transparent and productive engagement activities. Build collaborative partnerships, both internally and externally, and work with subject matter experts to develop an understanding of the organization’s unique needs, opportunities, and constraints.
  • Implement effective change management strategies to support our progress towards our goals.
  • Use effective project management approaches and tools to lead assigned projects, including identifying project scope, budget, timelines, and risks. 
  • Maintain abreast of industry trends and best practices and develop creative solutions to ensure our continued adoption of the most current and innovative methods to achieve our workplace diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and reconciliation commitments. 
  • Oversee regulatory compliance with the Employment Equity Act, the Accessible Canada Act and the Multiculturalism Act and meet legislated reporting requirements.
  • Prepare communications material such as legislated reports and action plans, business cases, award and certification submissions, and briefing notes to senior management. Develop and deliver presentations to business lines and senior management. 
  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a wide range of projects and initiatives that contribute to meeting our employment equity goals and improving our maturity.

 

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in relevant area such as Business, Psychology, Human Resources, etc.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience driving workplace diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and reconciliation efforts (eg. program design, training, education, staffing, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and work experience related to the position.
  • Experience planning, developing, supporting transformation efforts, and implementing complex initiatives, including a variety of communications and engagement strategies while leading others through change.
  • Experience leading and/or working with Employee Resource Groups.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence a variety of stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Demonstrated experience converting analytical results into actionable recommendations that create business value.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating difficult conversations. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Employment Equity and Accessibility legislations, as well as diversity and inclusion best practices, challenges, and strategies. 

 

It would be great if you also had:

  • A Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional designation (CCIP™). 
  • A certification or formal Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices of Reconciliation, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) calls to actions and Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDA).
  • Knowledge or experience working in conflict resolution.
